Description

Diabetic kidney disease is the number one cause of kidney failure in the USA as well as in the world. Its underlined pathogenesis remains unclear, and the treatment is limited. We have been using systems biology approach to study its pathogenesis to identify potential new drug targets to treat this disease. Recently, we identified LRG1 as a key molecule involving in the pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease. The current project will focus on the discovery of LRG1 inhibitors as potential new therapy for diabetic kidney disease. We will use in vitro assays and in vivo animal models to confirm the critical role of LRG1 in diabetic kidney disease and screen LRG1 inhibitors as novel therapy for diabetic kidney disease. 


Responsibilities

We have been using systems biology approach to study its pathogenesis to identify potential new drug targets to treat this disease. Recently, we identified LRG1 as a key molecule involving in the pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease. The current project will focus on the discovery of LRG1 inhibitors as potential new therapy for diabetic kidney disease. We will use in vitro assays and in vivo animal models to confirm the critical role of LRG1 in diabetic kidney disease and screen LRG1 inhibitors as novel therapy for diabetic kidney disease. 

Technical Duties (including any protocols):

  • We will validate cell-specific effects of LRG1 in the pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease by using cell-specific knockout mice and single cell analysis.
  • We will perform in vitro cell cultures of glomerular endothelial cells and tubular cells to screen different LRG1 inhibitors. 
  • We have validated the effects of LRG1 inhibitors in vivo in the animal models of diabetic kidney disease.
  • Techniques include cell culture, western blot, qPCR, genotyping of mice, mouse breading, kidney histology analysis, immunostaining, determination of urine albumin and renal function. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in science or related field preferred, or combination of relevant research experience and education
  • Candidate should have basic training in medical research.  Should be able to perform basic benchwork and animal studies.
  • 0-2 years of research/laboratory experience

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.5 - $34.1212 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
