Quality Improvement Research Analyst-Quality Assurance Corporate- Full-Time Days Hybrid

The Quality Improvement Research Analyst is responsible for preparing data abstractions and analyses of clinical data; assisting in the design and testing of data collection instruments and assisting in project management and research activities.

The Analyst works within the Quality Assessment and Improvement Department to collect and evaluate clinical data as part of the hospital's Performance Improvement Program. The primary focus of this role is to maintain compliance with the collection of data related to measurement mandated by the JCAHO, CMS, and by the NYS DOH.

Responsibilities

  • Abstraction of data related to JCAHO Core measures, CMS Publicly Reported Measures, and other data as mandated by NYS DOH, IPRO, and other regulatory agencies
  • On a daily basis, utilize expert knowledge of measure-specific/indicator-specific inclusion and exclusion criteria for mandated measure sets
  • Daily abstraction of both paper and electronic patient records based on established tools
  • Daily data entry into MHA web tools and monitor status
  • On a daily basis, develop a report of cases not meeting inclusion criteria, coding issues, and cases that did not meet the measurements standard and review with the Performance Improvement Coordinator. Make preliminary recommendations relative to inclusion/exclusion, re-coding, and documentation remediation
  • Create reports of "preliminary review findings" on concurrent reviews as well as third party "sampled" cases. Highlight trends and patterns
  • Conduct quality control and validation audits on a routine basis and prior to data submission to MHA, JCAHO/CMS, and DOH. Participate in the resolution of transmission errors, omissions critical errors related to submissions to MHA and QNET
  • Participate in activities related to CMS validation audits
  • Participate in weekly team meetings. Provide education to involved clinicians relative to documentation. Assist in problem solving and formulation of performance improvement strategies related to inclusion and documentation
  • Develop education strategies for clinicians relative to documentation
  • Work with clinicians to provide "just in time feedback"
  • Serve as a resource to unit-based triads
  • Participate in Special Studies as assigned
  • Participate in the development of chart abstraction tools for special studies and audits
  • Maintain organized documentation of completed reviews and chart tracking
  • Performs other related duties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in related science field
  • 5 years Medical-Surgical Nursing experience, or experience in a health care-related field

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $65885 - $98827 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
