Looking for a self-motivated, energetic and positive individual to join our Community Day Services staff. Responsibilities would include hands on care to older individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities in a small group setting. Other duties would be planning and implementing engaging activities for clients throughout their programming day, in a supportive caring environment. Candidates must also be able to work independently as well as cooperatively with co-workers. Starting rate is 16.00 per hour during paid training period. Upon completion of training, the hourly rate is increased to 16.50 per hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Position Identification:
a. Position Title: Community Day Services Trainer
b. Job Location Community Day Services Program Building
2. Position Relationships:
a. Reports to: CDS Director
b. Positions Directly Supervised: None
3. The individual is at the heart of all we do at MSJ CDS Program. The primary responsibility of ALL staff is to the individual. We must ensure that their care, needs and safety are being met at all times.
4. General Purpose of Position:
a. To help ensure that the Community Day Services Program runs smoothly, and within all regulatory expectations
5. Essential Position Functions:
a. Motivate and foster spiritual, moral and physical development of individuals
b. Work in any CDS programming room as assigned
c. Be willing to accept guidance and training form CDS Trainers
d. Assist in planning appropriate activities for individuals; assist in maintaining and implementing daily planners
e. Assist in the development of written goals and objectives for individual
f. Ability to work with individuals in assisting them to achieve their goals and objectives
g. Be consistent and accurate in documentation of the abilities of individuals toward the attainment of their goals and objectives
h. Document maladaptive behaviors or unusual incidents
i. Be knowledgeable and compliant in protecting the confidentiality of individuals according to HIPPA
j. Promptly communicate significant issues and noted changes in status of an individual to Nursing, CDS Director or CDS QIDP, and document in ECS
k. Responsible for the physical needs of individual including toileting and feeding
l. Demonstrates ability to effectively intervene as necessary when an individual acts out or otherwise demonstrates behaviors which could be harmful to self or others. This may at times require sufficient strength to be physically capable to assist in lifting or otherwise provide physical assistance
6. Secondary Position Functions:
a. Assist in providing supervision/assistance to individuals in the lunchroom if lunch is served in CDS, if needed
b. Attend ongoing in-service training as provided
c. Ensure compliance with regulatory entities
d. Other duties as assigned
7. Critical Knowledge, Skills and Expertise Needed to Specific to this Position:
a. High school degree or GED
b. At least one year experience working with individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities
c. A valid driver’s license
d. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the predominant language of the individual (English)
e. Must maintain a current CPR and First Aid certification and demonstrate ability to respond appropriately in an emergency
f. Basic computer skills

a. Must be able to speak, hear and see (with or without reasonable accommodations) to conduct the essential job functions for this position
b. Must be able to get around within the program safely (with or without accommodations) in order to complete the essential job functions for this position.
c. May be required to lift, push or pull equipment
d. May be involved in assisting to lift, move or transfer an individual with or without mechanical lift
e. May be required to deal effectively with maladaptive behaviors
f. May be required to handle hazardous material/substances in accordance with established policies and procedures (ie. using universal precautions or precautions specific to hazard)
g. May be required to operate facility vehicles including wheelchair lift and tie downs on bus
