Job Description
The financial aid counselor has the responsibility for providing financial aid advising and counseling to undergraduate students and parents for the main campus regarding financial aid application process, financial aid packages and additional options for funding. The financial aid counselor is responsible for the review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and awarding of institutional, federal financial aid. The counselor is responsible for the daily loading of data files from the U.S. Department of Education and the review of the FAFSA data.

Job Description

The financial aid counselor is responsible for the review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and awarding of institutional, federal financial aid. The counselor is responsible for the daily loading of data files from the U.S. Department of Education and the review of the FAFSA data.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Play a critical role in promoting financial literacy among students and helping students and parents navigate the financial aid process.
- Assists students and parents in completion of FAFSA and other financial aid forms
- Reviewing and evaluating of applications to determine eligibility and awarding of returning students.
- Responsible for the import of data via Ed Connect for COD and ISIR files.
- Review of subsequent ISIR’s and C codes resolution
- Review of daily change files provided by other campus partners to determine any impact/adjustments to a student’s financial aid eligibility.
- Responsible for monitoring COD to ensure MPN’s, entrance and exit counseling requirements are met.
- Monitor PowerFaids to review for outstanding student items and provide reminders as needed to enforce deadlines.
- Serve as a back up for bridging data between the various systems used on campus to ensure a constant flow of data between offices.
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of Title IV financial aid programs.
- Provide support for financial aid outreach activities for the main campus and Frederick campus events.
Minor Tasks
- Conducts financial aid workshops for admissions events on campus.
- Responsible for assisting with review and updating financial aid procedures manual.
- Conduct presentations and meet with students and parents via Zoom.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The Financial Aid Counselor reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of experience working in a financial aid office.
- Knowledge of Title IV federal financial aid regulations.
- Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (excel, word, powerpoint) and experience with financial aid software programs, with preferences towards PowerFaids, Edexpress and EdConnect.
- The position requires a great deal of contact with the public and the ability to get along well with all types of people.
