Overview
Medical Receptionist are very important to a medical office. They often are the first-person patients that interact with upon arriving at the medical office. Therefore, the medical receptionist is integral to shaping the patient’s first impression of the medical practice, which could shape the patient-provider relationship for the long-term.
Essential Functions
· Greeting patients
· Check in and check out patients in a timely manner so the providers can stay on time
· Receive payments
· Collecting patient balances and providing payment letters
· Maintain a basic knowledge of insurance companies Mount Vernon Internal Medicine participates with
· Verify patient insurance is active using the eligibility and phone list in Athena two days prior to their appointment
· Completing pre-cert if required by the insurance company
· Referrals
· Pre-ops for in house studies
· Schedule appointments in accordance with Mount Vernon Internal Medicine rules and regulations
· Administrative tasks as well as clerical duties
· Perform basic duties such as typing letters, maintain patient sign in sheet, mail patient information, and scan important documents
· Acquire and maintain a basic knowledge of our computer system Athena and Privia check in system and Microsoft Office
· Barcode and fax to patients’ chart
· Temperature checks when patients arrive
· Follow all office protocols and regulations
· Follows guidelines for patient privacy as provided by HIPAA
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned or apparent by the Office Manager or Management Committee
· Requirements
· Must be able to work independently as well as with a team
· Proficient in typing, spelling, grammar, and Microsoft word
· Strong organizational skills
· Must be professional courteous and motivates
· Ability to keep confidentiality
· Must be able to multitask
· Reply to patients’ messages as directed by our providers
· Must have high school diploma or GED
· Efficient and accurate data-entry skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
