The Mount Vernon Police Department is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Patrol Officers. As a Patrol Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety, enforcing laws, and building strong relationships within our community.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol assigned areas to prevent crime and ensure public safety
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Conduct traffic stops, issue citations, and investigate accidents
- Investigate criminal activity, gather evidence, and prepare reports
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws
- Conduct arrests and transport individuals to appropriate facilities
- Engage with the community to foster trust and positive relationships
- Testify in court proceedings when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years old
- POST certified or in the process of obtaining POST certification
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work 8-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Must pass a background check and drug screening
