JOB SUMMARY
A Mount Vernon Schools staff associate inspires students by creating and nurturing an environment where all students belong and incorporates high academic expectations, rigor, love of learning, and safety. Desired applicants have experience with and/or a commitment to the success with migrant, bilingual, and multilingual students. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, implement, and evaluate effective classroom instruction consistent with building and district curriculum/programs.
- Participate in team planning, programming, and instructional activities focused on improving instructional practices and student learning.
- Diagnose and prescribe learning and training programs for individual students based on aptitude, interest, and level to to achieve.
- Develop instructional goals and objectives to meet teaching assignment.
- Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for working with all children, regardless of background or disability
- Recognize individual students’ needs and provide appropriate strategies and interventions.
- Foster and maintain a safe positive learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents and the school community.
- Serve as a cooperative member of the instructional team.
- Use and integrate educationally relevant technology.
- Participate in building and district in-service education/training programs.
- Attend building and district meetings and conferences as required.
- Comply with school and administrative policies and state statute.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must hold a valid Washington State ESA certificate with School Psychologist endorsement
- Responsible for student assessment for placement in special programs
- Knowledgeable about State and Federal rules regarding assessment of students for special education services
- Ability to communicate with staff, students and parents relative to assessment outcomes
- Ability to work effectively with school administration in accomplishment of assigned duties
- Ability to work with members of school team to plan for child’s total educational program
- Knowledgeable about and experienced in multi-cultural settings and assessment procedures
- Extensive knowledge of individual and group testing
- Ability to make several recommendations for a child’s program
- Ability to work within the timeline required by regulations, including completion of paperwork
- Clearly and accurately interpret assessment results to parents, teachers and students in a collaborative team format
- Work as a team player with other special education and general education staff
- Ability to work collaboratively with speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other specialists serving the students
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
- Apply ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observe relevant laws and policies
- Proficiency in speaking, writing, or teaching in a language other than English (Spanish, Mixteco, Ukrainian, Russian, Marshallese, American Sign Language) preferred

Mount Vernon School District employees are eligible for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and long-term disability (LTD) coverage if they are anticipated to work 630 hours or more during the school year. Eligibility for retirement benefits applies to employees working 3.5 hours per day or more for five or more consecutive months.We also offer optional tax-sheltered annuities, including the Omni 403(b) and the Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (for 260-day employees only), and sick leave are prorated based on full-time employment status.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Works in a public school environment with occasional travel to District and community sites; required to adjust to shifting priorities; may occasionally deal with situations involving conflict and uncertainty; work varied hours.
