POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Addictions Peer Support Specialist
Community Support Program
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTING
RELATIONSHIP: Clinic

SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES: None
PURPOSE: To provide inspiration, hope, guidance, and support to individuals with a mental health condition who wishes to make a desired social or personal change. Function as a role model of competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinate with treatment coordinators to assist with the development and success of treatment goals.
2. Facilitate/ Co-Facilitate both in a group and individual setting
3. Maintain and submit all required records, documents, and reports on a timely basis.
4. Attend staff meetings and training conferences as required.
5. Maintain contact with community agencies to facilitate collaboration
6. Adhere to all standards for quality of care for clients. This includes, but is not limited to treating clients with respect, maximizing continuity of care, seeking supervision as necessary, arranging for coverage for periods of absence, and maintaining all professional ethics
7. Two years of continuous sobriety is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Peer Support Specialist Certification required. Experience with leadership and advocacy in the field of mental health, as well as the ability to demonstrate efforts at self-directed recovery. Must have valid Kentucky motor vehicle operator’s license. 2 years of continuous sobriety required.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of and personal experience with public mental health services. Strong reading comprehension and written communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to communicate with others in a professional manner.

- Supplement and enhance the work of the Therapist, Peer Support Groups and be a liaison with the community.
- Provide highly individualized services in the community and promote individual self-determination and decision-making to individuals with Mental Heath issues.
- Perform a wide range of tasks to assist individuals supported in regaining control over their own recovery processes. Interventions are strength-based and focused on promoting recovery, symptom reduction, increased coping skills, and achievement of the highest level of functioning in the community.
- Provide peer support services.
- Help individuals create strategies they can use when their illness may have an impact on their employment.
- Participate in Treatment Team meetings upon request of the individual.
- Participate in monitoring of individual satisfaction with supports, services and programs.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
- Maintain compliance with Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities and Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s Policies and Procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
