Job Description

Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions

Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors in the field of general biology. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach daytime lab sections on MECC's campus in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Adjunct lab instructors will teach multiple lab sections and will work closely with MECC's full-time biology instructor to match lab exercises with core curriculum requirements. Additional opportunities may be available to teach sections of the biology lecture both online and in person.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom or online environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
