What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiscal Technician-Business Office position at Mountain Empire Community Coll?
The Accounts Payable Fiscal Technician will oversee the agency’s capital expenditures while offering financial, administrative, and clerical support to the Business Office. Key tasks include processing, verifying, and paying invoices to ensure timely payments and expense control, in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s CAPP Manual. The role also involves reconciling monthly transactions, acting as the agency’s coordinator and trainer for purchase card transactions, and providing customer service.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success in the Position:
- Demonstrated reliability and a high level of trustworthiness.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Experience with accounting software, including the ability to retrieve and interpret reports, and a willingness to learn new systems.
- Strong organizational skills and a keen eye for detail.
- Capacity to maintain confidential and precise records.
- Understanding of accounting principles and Accounts Payable processes.
- Exceptional written communication and verbal customer service abilities.
- Capability to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Strong data entry skills.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, especially in the area of self-development in the position.
- Proficient in creating spreadsheets from scratch.
Required minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in accounting, accounts payable, banking, or business, or an associate’s degree may substitute for relevant experience.
Certified Accounts Payable Professional certification.
