What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse RN position at Mountain Lake Academy?
Annual range $60,450 - $70,000/year based on experience
Mountain Lake Academy is an experiential-based program that works with students in grades 7-12 at a year-round boarding school located in the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Mountain Lake Academy provides a variety of experiential-based programming for boys in grades 7-12. These experiences include hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, multi-day expeditions, and vocational programming.
As a School Nurse, you will:
- Provide nursing services, including education, counseling, and treatment to students in accordance with established protocol.
- Supervise, transport, and provide general care to students both on and off campus to ensure appropriate experiences.
- Administer and supervise daily morning and noon medications for students.
- Complete weekly medication packing with students.
- Facilitate medication education with students.
- Complete weekly medication inventory and ordering.
- Facilitate medication changes as needed.
- Support the agency with infection control response through role modeling and direct action.
- Participate in milieu activities, meetings, and treatment modalities in accordance with individual treatment plans, individualized education plans, and program goals.
- Provide crisis intervention and follow emergency procedures in accordance with individual treatment plans and program goals.
- Follow established protocol for incident reporting, documentation, and use of agency resources.
- Adhere to all program policies and procedures, including attendance, dress code, and employee conduct.
- Support the mission, goals, and values of MLA and role model appropriate behavior for students and staff.

- Has experience working with children with both emotional and learning disabilities in a therapeutic/experiential setting.

What You'll Need:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.Current BLS certification preferred.
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred.
- Physical ability to navigate stairs, uneven terrain, and complete essential duties including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention.
- A background check compliant with the New York State Justice Center and OCFS regulations.
- Valid New York State driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate with both internal and external resources in a professional manner.
