JOB DESCRIPTION
BUSINESS OFFICE ASSOCIATE
DIRECT SUPERVISION BY: Business Office Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Prepare, submit, and record all insurance information to include the patients’ and insurance companies’ communications concerning billing and balances. Assist the Business Office operations as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Bill and submit insurance claims appropriately and efficiently. * Appropriate and timely follow-up on all remits, denied claims. Administrative Adjustments for late charges, uncollectible accounts, small balance write off, etc., as directed by BOD or CEO. * Demonstrate accuracy of work regardless of volume. * Assist with process to match payments to patient accounts, as appropriate. * Maintain effective relationships with collection agencies, insurance companies, patients, physicians, administration, and other departments’ staff. * Maintain professional and courteous communication with patients, their responsible caregivers, and with insurance providers concerning patient regarding their billing. * Maintain an efficient department filing system to provide rapid and accurate record retrieval. Compile data for submission of the Medicare/Medicaid Credit Balance Report. * Review and correct unbilled report daily * Review Collections Report for department supervisor to include: Claims with balances that have met collection criteria, review notes on the account, Review of notes on accounts * Maintain confidentiality of billing and medical information. * Comply with appropriate procedural, safety, and legal requirements, established by regulatory and legal entities * Follow all hospital policies and procedures. * Demonstrates an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional activities. * Attend mandatory meetings and participate on committees as directed. * Remain current with reimbursement billing procedures of third party and private insurance payers, know payer contracts * Be knowledgeable of insurance regulations * Stay current with Hometown Health, education vendor. * Support the purposes, policies, and standards established by the Business Office Department and Hospital Administration. * Maintain channels of communication with Administration, other departments, medical staff, and within the Business Office Departments, as appropriate. * Attend called meeting with Administration, and other managers as appropriate to discuss problems relating to billing, and solutions for quality improvement. * Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor or Business Office Director
QUALIFICAITONS EDUCATION/TRAINING Business Degree, or degree in related area, preferred. High School education, required.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE Prior experience of at least (1) year with insurance billing in a medical setting. Hospital billing preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates competence with insurance procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of office machines and equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of Business Office and medical billing operations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Moderate to heavy physical exertion and lifting. Sitting both at short intervals and long periods Normal, or corrected vision and hearing. Normal or corrected hearing and vision. Ability to read and write effectively in English Ability to communicate with employee’s physicians and office staff, patients, and visitors. Ability to remain calm under stress. Walking, reaching stooping and bending. Lifting & pushing minimum of 50 pounds.
