Mountain Parks Electric is a distribution cooperative seeking an individual for the Staking Technician position in our Granby, Colorado location. Mountain Parks Electric has 65 employees, approximately 1,800 miles of line, and serves approximately 22,000 meters. MPEI is headquartered in Granby, Colorado located at an elevation of 7,935 feet, 90 miles from Denver International Airport and 25 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. The Staking Technician is responsible for investigating, designing, surveying, inspecting, and staking electric distribution lines in accordance with Mountain Parks Electric construction specifications, National Electrical Safety Code, National Electric Code, and Rural Utilities Service in order to obtain the most efficient and effective system design. This position prepares staking sheets and cost estimates for new services, security lights, removal of idle services, service change-outs, line moves and system improvements. The Staking Technician develops and obtains easement and right-of-way documentation, conducts deed searches, identifies owners, secures cooperation and permission for the construction and maintenance of electrical facilities, assists in preparing and maintaining system maps and database, and will work with new and existing members, developers, and contractors on a daily basis.
Applicants must have five years related experience and/or training working for electric utilities in the area of distribution line staking and right-of-way/permit preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of distribution line design, transformer sizing, construction specifications, right-of-way easement procedures, National Electrical Safety Code, National Electric Code, Colorado Department of Transportation utilities relocation procedure, drafting, construction materials, basic surveying preferred. Experience with NISC, Mapwise, GPS, surveying, NESC, RUS standards, AutoCAD, word processing, spread sheet and data base software desirable. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
