Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing personalized care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position requires a compassionate and dedicated individual who can assist clients in achieving their personal goals while promoting independence and dignity. The DSP will work closely with clients to implement care plans, monitor their well-being, and ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
- Monitor clients' physical and emotional well-being, reporting any changes or concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect client confidentiality and privacy.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering positive relationships with clients.
- Assist with mobility and transportation as needed, ensuring safe travel to appointments or community activities.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance caregiving skills, including first aid and CPR.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, family members, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medication administration practices and patient monitoring techniques preferred but no required.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to help others achieve their goals.
- Certification in first aid or CPR is a plus; but training will be provided if not currently held.
- A background in home health care or assisted living settings is advantageous.
