We are currently seeking compassionate and motivated individuals to join our team as Nursing Support Staff (NSS) at Mountain Shadows Community Homes in Escondido. As a member of our Nursing Support Staff, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for the residents in our care by providing hands-on support with personal care, skill development, medical procedures, and social engagement—while working closely with our nursing team of RNs and LVNs.
About the Position
Position Summary:
The Nursing Support Staff position is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), are currently certified, or have completed Medical Assistant training. At Mountain Shadows Community Homes, we provide additional training and support to help you further develop your skills and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. As Nursing Support Staff, you will assist with daily living activities, perform basic medical procedures, support nursing staff, and mentor new direct care employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist residents with personal hygiene tasks, including showering, toileting, grooming, and dental care.
- Provide skill training to residents in areas such as self-help, personal care, and independent living.
- Facilitate recreational and leisure activities that promote socialization and community involvement.
- Perform housekeeping tasks, including cooking, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, and general cleaning.
- Administer medications as prescribed and per care plans.
- Perform medical procedures such as G-tube feedings, breathing treatments, and vital sign monitoring (training provided).
- Provide support to the nursing team with administrative tasks as needed.
- Mentor and support new Direct Care Staff.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of residents by following care plans and organizational protocols.
- Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings to continuously enhance skills and knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure the highest standard of care.
Shifts Available:
- 3:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
- 2:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.
- 10:30 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. (Overnight)
- Weekend-only shifts are available.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a CNA or completion of Medical Assistant training preferred.
- Must pass a criminal background clearance, including fingerprinting.
- Negative TB test and negative drug screening required.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Ability to assist with personal care, housekeeping, and recreational activities.
- Prior experience in caregiving or healthcare is highly valued.

Working Conditions:
Environmental Factors:
Work in both indoor and outdoor environments. Exposure to varying temperatures, potentially hazardous cleaning products, and tasks that may require working on slippery or uneven surfaces.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to use hands for various tasks, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
