Paraprofessional

Special education paraprofessionals work under the overall supervision of the Director of Student Services with direct supervision provided by special education teachers.

Job Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities will vary depending upon the age of students served as well as the nature and severity of the student’s disabilities:

• Assist in the educational and social/emotional development of students under the direction and guidance of the special education teachers and the Director of Student Services.
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students and monitor their progress.
• Work with the special education teachers and classroom teachers to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Escalation Cycle Management Plans (ECMPs) for students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
• Modify general education classroom work tasks based on individual student needs.
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
• Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, school counselor or social worker, occupational therapist.
• Communicate effectively with adult professionals throughout the school

Requirements:

• Minimum high school diploma with 1-2 years of college education classes very helpful
• 1-2 years experience working with children in special education
• Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, transferring, restraining, etc.)
• Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
• Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
• Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position

• Behave and speak in a professional manner at all times.
• Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
• Attend monthly paraprofessional meetings after school.
• Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
