Mountain Song Community School (MSCS) is a community of families and educators dedicated to the conscious evolution of the whole child utilizing developmentally appropriate holistic education that nurtures body, mind and heart. Special education paraprofessionals work under the overall supervision of the Director of Student Services with direct supervision provided by special education teachers.
Job Responsibilities:
Job responsibilities will vary depending upon the age of students served as well as the nature and severity of the student’s disabilities:
- Assist in the educational and social/emotional development of students under the direction and guidance of the special education teachers and the Director of Student Services.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students and monitor their progress.
- Work with the special education teachers and classroom teachers to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Escalation Cycle Management Plans (ECMPs) for students with social/emotional/behavioral needs.
- Modify general education classroom work tasks based on individual student needs.
- Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
- Work with other professionals, such as speech therapist, school counselor or social worker, occupational therapist.
- Communicate effectively with adult professionals throughout the school
Requirements:
- Minimum high school diploma with 1-2 years of college education classes very helpful
- 1-2 years experience working with children in special education
- Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, transferring, restraining, etc.)
- Have demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others
- Have demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
- Have willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position

- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Attend monthly paraprofessional meetings after school.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
