What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Math Interventionist (Title I) position at Mountain Valley Elementary School?
Please note this position is funded through Title I funds and continuation of position will be dependent on the availability of Title I funds.
Primary Purpose:
Improve the campus instructional program to help disadvantaged students reach high academic standards in mathematics through supplemental support of the campus intervention program. Improve student success in mathematics in the critical early developmental years through targeted evidenced-based intervention in kindergarten through third grade. Effectively implement the district curriculum and/or instructional expectations for the EMI program which includes detailed progress monitoring. Additionally, provide a safe and positive learning environment for students and feedback to classroom teachers, students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Education / Certification:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate.
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Bilingual Certification or ESL Supplemental preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Expertise in mathematics curriculum, assessment, instructional delivery and staff development.
- Deep understanding of the scientific research base for instruction and extensive knowledge of mathematics program components and teaching experience within the field of
- Knowledgeable about proven scientific based research strategies, appropriate use of assessment and intervention strategies for struggling students in the area of mathematics.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience / Other Requirements:
- Five years of successful teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
- Collects, analyzes, and prepares data for the purpose of interpretation, identification, progress monitoring, and reporting to the district and parents.
- Works with classroom teachers to identify areas of student needs, such as computation, mathematical fluency, and problem solving, and develops appropriate interventions to address each skill.
- Demonstrates methods to teachers and paraprofessionals required to perform effective math intervention to address the needs of each student.
- Instructs students in a “push-in” setting for the purpose of improving success in math and assessing math concepts and proficiencies through a defined methodology.
- Develops and coordinates a math schedule cooperatively with classroom teachers in target grade levels according to the EMI program guidelines in order to provide reading intervention to Tier 3 students and ensure student success.
- Prepares teaching materials and related reports for the purpose of implementing intervention lesson plans and documenting student progress.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information for the purpose of protection of students, staff, parents, and the district.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors student progress for the purpose of providing (in cooperation with the teacher) student feedback on a regular basis to students, teachers, and parents, and determining interventions for those students who are identified as at-risk in math.
- Plans math weekly with target grade level teachers.
Professional Development
- Facilitates professional development to support campus staff in regard to math
- Mentors classroom teachers and support staff for the purpose of supporting staff in the instructional process.
- Meets monthly with the program director for continued professional development regarding evidence-based best practices.
- Participates in meetings as necessary (e.g. ARD Meetings and LPAC Meetings) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
School/Organization Improvement
- Maintains regular communication with parents and teachers via phone call, emails, notes, letters, and meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
