Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Billing/Coding Clerk to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
An Outpatient Biller/Coder is an individual who assigns a numeric or an alphanumeric classification to identify ICD-10 diagnoses and procedures and applies documentation guidelines to translate diagnosis and procedural phrases. These codes are assigned based upon a review of the source document (medical record). The biller/coder shall always show cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors, physicians, and their staff along with all other departments and hospital personnel. Files all insurance according to State and Federal guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews charts thoroughly to ascertain accurate diagnoses/procedures in a timely manner.
2. Contacts responsible physician in professional manner if diagnosis is not available on chart.
3. Coders diagnoses and procedure on clinical summary agree with physicians preference 100% of the time.
4. Refers chart to supervisor if there is a question regarding the diagnosis code.
5. Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.
6. Codes all diagnoses/procedures in accordance to ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and/or HCPCS Level II coding principles and guidelines.
7. Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment system.
8. Must be familiar with all charting and coding requirements.
9. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
10. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients records.
11. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
12. Assists with coding and error resolution.
13. Sorts/files correspondence and maintains items in date order. Responsible to work and follow-up on reminders daily.
14. Identifies problem accounts as well as claims processing delays and escalates to management.
15. Maintains various payers bulletins and educational updates in work area
16. Updates the patient account record to reflect the current actions that had been taken.
17. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
18. Attends meetings as required.
19. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
20. Maintains patient confidentiality.
21. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
22. Maintains industry standard of 95% coding accuracy as identified by audit results.
23. Completes annual education requirements.
24. Maintains regulatory requirements.
25. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Completes work within designated time.
26. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.

Education/Certification: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Minimum of CCS or CPC credentials required. RHIA or RHIT recommended.
Experience: One year or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
