Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Financial Specialist/Scheduler to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
Navigating our patients through the financial component of cancer care. The diagnosis of cancer affects every portion of a patient’s life including that of their finances. Often patients are unable to work full-time and that coupled with ever-growing medical bills creates a stress most people don’t think about. This position would require the ability to recognize financial needs whether it is through lack of insurance, being underinsured, large co-pays or poor management of resources. Requires sensitive conversations about how the treatment of cancer may impact a patient’s lifestyle. Obtaining knowledge of the various social programs, Medicaid, Medicare, private insurances, charity and drug assistance programs would be key to helping these patients. The ability to hold a patient accountable for their portions by developing financial agreements would also be a major responsibility of this position. This person would be working closely with other disciplines within the institute. Maintains communication with referring physicians, insurance providers and staff to help ensure continuity of care. Responsible for verifying insurance benefits and eligibility of Radiation Oncology patients, obtaining patient information regarding need for financial assistance as well as charity assistance. Responsible for obtaining prior authorization for radiation therapy, radioisotopes, PET CT scans as well as other diagnostic tests. Works to ensure that patients who are referred to Radiation Oncology are efficiently appointed and all pertinent information is in place in order to provide the best consultation appointment possible. Coordinates internal and external communications among staff, patients and providers while providing effective and efficient services to patients. Accurately collects, records and ensures distribution to appropriate staff via computer and/or manual systems. Performs clerical and scheduling activities in support of patients and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meets with patients early in admission process to assess financial needs and facilitate process for unmet needs. Works closely with the patient estimates to decide best avenue for securing payment or charity.
2. Refers uninsured patients to IDHW and insurance specialists in attempt of obtain insurance. Follows through with assistance until the applications are approved or denied.
3. Keeps up-to–date with social assistance programs and co-pay assistance foundations for under-insured patients.
4. Works directly with billing office in collections.
5. Assists with guiding patients through charity process and is responsible for compiling necessary information so charity application can be accepted or denied. Creates estimates to reflect clinic costs and uploading all corresponding documents to the MVH charity dashboard.
6. Maintains department records, reports, forms and files.
7. Maintains communication with referring physicians, insurance providers and staff to ensure continuity of care.
8. Verifies all Teton Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology patients have appropriate diagnosis for each plan of care to support medical necessity. Insurance is pre-certified if necessary and obtains a commitment for payment arrangements from patient when necessary prior to therapy.
9. Responsible for Knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available.
10. Must develop rapport and trust with the patients and families.
11. Other duties as assigned.
12. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
13. Must maintain a professional attitude at all times.
14. Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings and completes annual educational requirements attends all other meetings as required.
15. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
16. Answers incoming calls to the facility in a professional, timely manner.
17. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
18. Works with PET CT Techs to schedule PET CT patients in an efficient and timely manner.
19. Ensures PET patients are given diet and exercise instructions at time of scheduling.
20. Verify necessary information and records in the medical record. Ensure the patient’s medical record and any diagnostic tests are received and/or sent to clinic prior to appointment. Works with physician to understand preferences for records that they need in chart to have a successful consultation/exam.

Qualifications
Education/Certification: AA or equivalent from a two year college or technical school; Behavioral science, human relations, medical terminology business, paralegal courses helpful. Knowledge of the collection practices and an understanding of the Fair Debt and Collection Act would be helpful.
Experience: Two years of medical staff office work can be substituted for education requirement.
Equipment/Technology: Strong computer skills a must.
Language/Communication: Strong communication skills needed. The ability to interpret legal documents would be helpful. Sensitivity, maturity and ability to communicate clearly and concisely is a must..
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced environment and be self-directed is a must. Ability to work within a schedule and with a variety of personalities and educational levels is a must.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others. Ability to be a team player is crucial. Ability to have direct yet sensitive conversations in an empathetic manner.
Performance: Job tasks should be completed in a timely manner with strong communication between involved team players. Position requires exceptional team player skills.
