Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Laboratory Phlebotomist to join our team!

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:       

Order, collecting, process routine and specialty testing, and returning results back to doctor.  Obtain, process doctors orders, and data entry.  Provide good customer service on the phone, patients, doctors and other medical staff.  Work well under pressure. Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling samples.  Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering of samples to laboratory.  Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Proficiency in collecting correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  2. Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting and delivering samples to laboratory.
  3. Knowledge of handling laboratory supplies and stocks supplies.
  4. Ensure that patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient’s expectation.
    • Adherence by staff to all policy and procedures.
    • Provides age appropriate care.
    • Reporting monitoring and management of patient and staff incidents.
    • Monitoring and management of patient and physician satisfaction results.
  5. Follows standards precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Knowledge and performance of sterile tech.
  6. Maintain, develop and utilize professional relationships with a wide range of organizations and specialists. 
  7. Maintains strict quality control for procedures.
  8. Organize requisitions received for collection, maintains records of tests performed Scanning orders and lab results into electronic medical system, print and fax lab reports to ordering doctor.
  9. Orients and mentors new staff members.
  10. Shows good customer service on phone and in person to anyone that enters the laboratory.
  11. Performs miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations.
  12. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  13. Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  14. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  15. Is flexible, organized and functions under stressful situations.
  16. Completes annual education requirements.
  17. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  18. Maintain flexibility in a growing environment and be willing to grow, change and accept new duties as the scope of the clinic changes with the needs of the community and hospital.
  19. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  20. Other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications


Education/Certification High School Diploma or higher.  Current BLS Certification.  Valid driver’s license.

 

Experience:  Phlebotomy course or phlebotomy experience. 

 

Equipment/Technology:  Experience with computers and office equipment, required.

 

Language/Communication:  The ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Bilingual is a plus.  Must understand medical terminology.

 

Mathematical Skills:  General Math skills.

 

Mental Capabilities:  Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments.  Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.

 

Interpersonal:  Good communication skills, and ability to work well with others.  Team player and flexible.

               

Performance:  Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines.  Good customer service skills. Can recognize and understand the complexity and reflex-testing of laboratory complexity.
