What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nutrition Program Kitchen Assistant position at MOUNTAIN VIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT?
The Mountain Views School Nutrition Program seeks a full-time Kitchen Assistant. This position is seven hours per day (7 AM - 2 PM), five days per week. The hourly wage starts at $18.20 and increases with education and experience.
We are looking for a dynamic team player to work in our fast-paced kitchen preparing and serving healthy, delicious school meals for our students and staff. Daily responsibilities include completing prep tasks assigned by the Cook Site Leader, serving meals according to a meal service schedule and nutritional requirements, operating the purchase-of-sale register, washing dishes, and cleaning.
Experience working in a commercial kitchen, managing large-scale food prep, and cooking from scratch is recommended. Must be able to stand for long periods, lift 50 pounds plus daily, multi-task, and have a positive attitude throughout the day. Woodstock serves a high volume of students and staff over a short period, making a sense of humor, a positive attitude, and good communication skills, written and verbal, a must. Serve Safe certification is required within one month of hire.
- Responsibilities and Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Use safe food handling procedures according to VT Department of Health Food & Lodging Regulations
- Production record keeping
- Wash and sanitize the meal service area, dishes and pans
- Able to use Purchase of Sale (POS) software and computer to claim reimbursable meals
- Able to work as a team player within the school and the school nutrition program
- Must enjoy working with children
- Serve Safe certification required or can be obtained within the first month of employment.
- Mental Demands: calculating, comparing, problem-solving, evaluating, interpreting, organizing, consulting, analyzing, planning, documenting, specifying, coordinating, implementing, and presenting.
- Physical Demands: sitting, standing, climbing stairs, adjusting, connecting, lifting (to 50 lbs.), bending, keyboarding, pulling, pushing, carrying, writing, and operating equipment.
- Environmental Conditions: inside, slippery surfaces, chemical exposure, biological exposure, working around moving objects, working alone, working in hot temperatures.
- At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
