The Commercial Project Manager (CPM) is responsible for managing multiple simultaneous mid to large-sized commercial solar and storage construction projects throughout entire project lifecycle (design, permitting, construction, testing, interconnection, and PTO). The CPM acts as a liaison with appropriate company personnel and vendors to ensure project compliance to local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company quality and safety standards (OSHA, Local Requirements, etc.). Additionally, this person coordinates and effectively prioritizes multiple complex high priority tasks. The CPM initiates, facilitates, and monitors project progress and performance to assure quality and on time delivery. Also, the CPM ensures milestone dates are met. The CPM monitors risks during various stages of the project and escalates issues to the appropriate level of management. The CPM maintains project status reports on projects. The ideal candidate has in-depth commercial project management experience, and excellent ability to independently determine work priorities in alignment with business needs.
Commercial Project Manager Core Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessments.
- Lead the coordination, scoping, and refinement of the final system design.
- Work with business development team and management to set project specific budget during bid process and contract negotiation, as necessary.
- Forecast spend rates based on the budgets.
- Create and track start to end project plan. Alert management to project schedule, budget, scope variations such as schedule slippage, budget deviation, or scope changes.
- Identify and manage critical path and risk areas and create risk response and mitigation plans.
- Track tasks and milestones across all parties, including vendors.
- Oversee all aspects of solar project construction, including permitting, interconnection, and system installation.
- Adhere to all OSHA and local safety standards.
- Coordinate change request generation and tracking.
- Lead internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors to execute projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to project plans.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractors, to ensure project requirements are met.
- Coordination and oversight of final commissioning activities and owner training.
- Make project scheduling decisions in conjunction with the Projects and Operations team and facilitate conversations as necessary for decision making.
- Report on project progress as required by clients and management.
- Report weekly (or as necessary) on any risks/issues.
- Escalate issues as required.
- Work with other cross functional project teams to track and manage inter-project dependencies.
- Communicate updates on major milestones, escalations and status to clients and management.
- Manage within budgetary objectives monitoring and controlling costs within functional area.
- Ensure lessons learned are documented and implemented on subsequent projects
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field is preferred.
- Previous experience and knowledge of project management, especially solar. Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Relationship and team builder that displays a “can-do” attitude. Clear understanding and ability to enthusiastically promote industry safety and OSHA standard workplace practices and procedures.

- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google mail, Google Calendar, Google Meet. Experience working within project management software (i.e., Microsoft Project, Mission Control (Salesforce), Project Libre, etc.)
- Able to learn new technologies.
- Criminal/civil background check, and motor vehicle records search will be required in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations. A valid driving license and good driving record is required.
