What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Physical Education Teacher position at Mountain Views Supervisory Union (School District)?
Mountain Views School District has an opening for a full-time Physical Education Teacher (1.0 FTE) for the 2025/2026 school year. This is a shared position between the Reading Elementary School (grades K-4) and The Prosper Valley School (grades 5 & 6). The primary role of the PE Teacher is to promote physical wellness and health based on Vermont adopted physical fitness standards. The PE teacher will collaborate with unified arts teachers and district health, wellness, and physical education professionals to promote wellness across the schools and lifelong fitness habits in our students.

We successfully use Positive Behavior Intervention Systems and the Responsive Classroom model for promoting a safe and respectful environment. The right candidate will have a love for children and physical education, and will be motivated to work hard as part of a team.
Responsibilities Include
- Planning for the instructional needs of all students;
- Modifying instruction for students’ diverse physical abilities, skills, and prior experiences;
- Developmentally appropriate strategies for teaching movement concepts, skills, development, and personal fitness;
- High expectations for student achievement and behavior;
- Using a variety of assessments to inform instruction, including The Vermont Physical Education Assessment (VTPEA);
- Creating an environment that maximizes student learning with a focus on character development;
- Developing partnerships that enhance student learning;
- Demonstrating continuous professional growth;
- Takes advantage of community resources to enhance physical activity and wellness opportunities, including outdoor education.
Requirements:
- Hold (or be eligible to hold) a valid VT Educator license with a Physical Education & Health endorsement.
Preferred Requirements:
- Ability to teach adaptive PE for students with special needs.
- Familiarity with The Vermont Physical Education Assessment (VTPEA.)
- At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.

Reading Elementary School is a public elementary school located at the heart of the town of Reading, Vermont. The campus includes an Outdoor Classroom with access to acres of forest, meadows, and public hiking trails. The curriculum focuses on sustainability and outdoor education and includes instruction from the Vermont Institute of Natural Science. Children go outside to learn from the world around them every day, rain or shine. RES is a small school with a low student to teacher ratio. Every child gets individual attention to support their learning and social emotional growth.

The Prosper Valley School is located in Pomfret, about a mile from the center of Woodstock. The school reopened in 2021-22 after a total renovation and repurposing of the building to serve grades 5 and 6 at an environmentally themed school. The campus includes 50 acres of fields and forests, along with frontage on the Barnard Brook. Students have access to an onsite greenhouse, sugar house, and the Horizons Observatory.
