Building Inspector Combination I or II FLSA: Non-Exempt Building Inspector I Salary Grade: 14 (Min $30.06, Mid $36.07, max $42.09) Building Inspector II Salary Grade: 15 (Min $33.07, Mid $39.68, Max $46.30)Building Inspector I Hiring Range: $30.06-$36.07/hourBuilding Inspector II Hiring Range: $33.07-$39.68/hour**Applications will be accepted until Sunday, 4/20/25. Applications will be reviewed starting 4/21/25.***Applicant placement into Building Inspector I or Building Inspector II will be based on certifications possessed as well as relevant years of experience. Qualifications for Level II and Level III are noted in the job posting. NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision, primary duties will involve building inspections in primarily residential occupancies to ensure compliance with currently adopted codes in Mountain Village. Will provide technical assistance and general information for community development process to the general public, contractors and design professionals. Will assist in reviewing new materials and methods used in building construction. Investigates complaints and violations of adopted codes and ordinances. Issues Stop Work orders and Notices of Violation for non-compliance. Job classification depends on experience at time of hire.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in inspecting buildings and structures for compliance with Town-adopted building codes, including but not limited to the IBC, the IRC, the IMC, the NEC and the IPC. Assist in inspecting plumbing installations and connections for compliance with municipal and State of Coloradocodes and established standards; inspects building projects for conformance to plumbing codes and standards.Reviews inspection results with contractors, sub-contractors, homeowners, and/or other relevant parties. Will assist in providing plan reviews for compliance as needed.Assists in requiring corrections to be made when deficiencies are discovered and assists builders and owners in determining how such corrections may be made to achieve code conformance; Identifies code deficiencies and details necessary corrections required.Participates in administering and enforcing codes pertaining to the construction, use, and occupancy of public and private buildings, property and structures; advises contractors and others on various installations problems as they relate to the Construction Code; confers with contractors and property owners to explain codes, standards, inspection processes and regulations; provides advice concerning development, review and modification of plans and specifications to meet code requirements.Assists the public in resolving complaints regarding illegal parking and/or obstructions to traffic flow.Respond to general court clerk-related inquiries; attends court proceedings and provides testimony regarding parking citationsPatrols assigned areas within the Town; monitors for parking violationsSchedules and assists in conducting building inspections throughout the community.Monitors projects for compliance with applicable adopted codes and regulatory requirements.Prepares and maintains building inspection records and documentation.Interprets, applies, and responds to code related inquiries; conducts building code research.May participate in reviewing building plans for regulatory compliance.Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, designers and other clientele. The ability to quickly find code compliant solutions for customers where corrections are necessary is needed.Promotes and observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary; may attend safety committee meetings, actively participates in and may conduct safety trainings.Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team.Actively works to progress the Town’s goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling.Additional duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of building inspection; building inspection procedures and documentation; current building codes, regulations, and standards; construction practices, methods, and materials; building plans and review processes; mathematical principles required to perform related technical calculations; the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of plumbing systems and equipment; uniform plumbing and mechanical codes and associated rules, regulations, and standards. stages of construction when possible violations and defects may most easily be observed and corrected.Skill in: Experience as a Contractor, inspector, job foreman or project managerExcellent customer service with the focus on the client.Proficiency with Microsoft Office productsGood time management and organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to exercise initiative and independent judgmentKnowledge of accepted industry standard installationsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsBi-lingual English, Spanish skillsAccurate record-keeping a mustAbility to successfully complete continuing education as it relates to certifications and licensing.Environmental Factors: Work is performed primarily in the field while conducting building inspections and involves exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous materials, and general construction hazards.Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maneuver around construction sites, work in confined spaces and low light conditions, climb stairs, walls, and ladders, and lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.Expectations of All Employees: To support consistent high-quality guest service to everyone in our community, including our co-workers, making Mountain Village a great place to live, work and visit.
