Position Title: Breaking Teaching ArtistStart Date: 2/1/2025

Type: W-9 Part-time contract; Seasonal

Hours per week: (2-3 hours per week) After School Hours between Mon-Thu

Compensation: $50/hour

Contract Period: February 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025 Location: Baltimore, MD (IN-PERSON)

Position Summary:

Moving History is hiring for: (1) Breaking Teaching Artist in Baltimore City for an after school program. This is an in-person position at a public school, the Teacher must be based in the Baltimore area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.

  • Must have experience teaching students Breaking
  • Must be available to teach classes on ALL scheduled dates (outlined in the Teacher’s contract prior to signing/onboarding) - with the exception of federal holidays and any scheduled BCPS closings.
  • Using our Moving History curriculum: Create and implement engaging lesson plans that teach African Diasporan history, align with educational standards, and impart Breaking as a discipline.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and academic growth.
  • Utilize various teaching methods and techniques to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Collaborate with colleagues for the success of our interdisciplinary projects.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively, implementing appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in their personal and artistic development.- Record student attendance in each class.
  • Distribute surveys to students at the beginning and end of the program.
  • Check Moving History emails weekly and respond to time-sensitive communication.
  • Attend (paid) scheduled in-person or zoom meetings or training.

Note: You may be required to perform other related duties as assigned by the school administration related to this assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Dance education and/or relevant professional experience required.
  • Proven experience working with students in a studio or classroom setting. (Please provide sample photos of your work, videos of your process and/or documentation of your work with youth with your application. These may be in the form of attachments and/or links to your online portfolio or website.)
  • Strong knowledge of the subject matter (Breaking).
  • Ability to effectively manage student behavior and create a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude.- Strong ethics and reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.

  • Professional dance experience is required. - 2 years experience working with youth K-12.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Dance or a closely related field is a plus.

Physical Demands:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in various performance settings; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (up to 20 pounds) amounts of weight; to travel to other locations using reliable transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Special Conditions of Employment:

- A background check and fingerprinting at your own expense will be required upon hire.
