Position Summary:
Lead, plan and implement cost reduction projects as designated from the Supply Chain Manager. Act as the contract manufacturer liaison to lead the “End-of-Life” (EOL) reviews and replacement recommendations when notified by purchasing or engineering of such issues on legacy models and/or components and current in production units and/or components.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze cost reduction ideas; prioritize in a sequence of most to least beneficial to the overall business when looking at the total cost of ownership.
- Develop schedules and action plans to clearly identify all tasks and timelines to implement a cost reduction or EOL component replacement project.
- Implement operational solutions and business processes which align the objectives of the position with the business’s objectives utilizing appropriate tools and technologies.
- Develop, maintain and communicate project plans. Keep the projects on-time, on-specification and on-budget.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, Service and Document Control as required to effectively implement both costs down projects and EOL component changes utilizing action plans and regularly scheduled meetings with those affected by the project.
- Maintain an active listing of active and potential cost down projects as well as conduct quarterly “brainstorming” meetings to add new ideas to the potential project listing.
- Create and maintain an EOL component log that is reviewed with the operational and engineering management team monthly. This log should include the following information: Critical part description/number, Reason for designation as EOL, Current options/comments, Actions planned, Responsible person, estimated date of completion, Priority, Product family, Model, Quantity available until run-out, estimated run-out date, other info as deemed appropriate.
Equipment To Be Used:
Computers, fax machines, telephones, calculators, small hand tools, and electronic test equipment.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Sit, stand, walk, lift, bend, and reach.
- Drive a car/SUV day or night.
- Specific vision abilities require close vision and ability to focus.
- Frequently lift ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to sixty (60) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than sixty (60) pounds using lifting aids, technologies, or appropriate assistance.
Typical Mental Demands:
- Ability to read and comprehend instruction, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information to customers and other employees of the organization.
Working Conditions:
- Quiet, temperature controlled, typical office environment.
- Typical workweek will include eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days a week.
- Occasional evenings and weekends.
Travel:
Approximately 15% travel to customers’ sites via car or airplane.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Five (5) plus years of experience in job related training and experience.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the field of Industrial Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Prior experience of coordinating with suppliers, design engineering, and production is considered a significant plus.
Skills:
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Above average mathematical skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited options may exist.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as supplier product specification sheets, component application instructions, and testing procedures.
- Ability to create and communicate justification reports and correspondence.
- Ability to define problems; collect data; establish facts; and draw conclusions.
- Must be a self-motivated and have the confidence to perform with a minimal amount of assistance/supervision.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract variables.
- PC literate in Excel, Microsoft Word, Data Base Applications, and 3D modeling software.
