What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Security Officer position at MPEA?
Position Summary : The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is a senior level security executive who reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is accountable for the identification, development and management of the Authority’s overall security, risk mitigation, and public safety related programs.
Essential Functions :
1. In cooperation with the Authority’s leadership team, the CSO directs the development of the overall security strategy and risk mitigation programs for the campus (McCormick Place, Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, Marriott Marquis Chicago and Wintrust Arena).
2. The CSO will oversee and direct all campus Security Directors in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining security processes and policies throughout the campus to reduce risks, respond to incidents and limit the Authority’s exposure and liability in all areas of physical, personal, reputational, financial and information technology.
3. Work with the CEO and senior executive team to prioritize security initiatives and related spending based on appropriate risk management and financial methodology.
4. Oversee incident response and investigations that may occur on the campus and liaison with the appropriate City, State or Federal agencies.
5. The CSO will maintain a positive working relationship with all City, State and Federal public safety officials as well as represent the Authority at other relevant government functions and private sector related associations.
6. The CSO will research, recommend and deploy state of the art technology solutions and innovative security management techniques to safeguard the Authority’s personnel and assets. The CSO will ensure that all campus Security Directors follow appropriate standards and programs in place to monitor associated risk and rectify concerns as soon as possible to limit the Authority’s exposure and liability.
7. The CSO will be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization (Executive Management Team, governing board, employees etc.) on the status of security, risk mitigations and public safety.
8. The CSO will lead by example and create a culture of training, mentoring and attention to detail for all security related personnel on the campus.
Education, Experience & Skills Required :
1. A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of senior level executive leadership experience. At least, ten (10) years’ overall experience in any security management and security disciplines.
2. A credible leader with a proven ability to develop and build leadership teams with an emphasis on working together to achieve a common goal.
3. A proven ability to train a team in developing complex, intelligence-based security systems and models.
4. Successfully execute complex security plans.
5. Experience in preparing and managing a budget.
6. Strong computer competences, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must possess excellent written and communication skills.
7. Relevant project management work experience with a demonstrated record to lead and execute security compliance and risk mitigation programs.
8. Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities and the ability to identify and define security and risk matters and propose appropriate solutions.
9. Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Must have a strong proven track record of responding quickly and effectively to situations.
10. Ability to successfully interact in skilled labor / union and government environments is desirable.
