Job Description
Responsibilities
- Perform preoperative assessments and conduct intraoperative sensory and motor tests using electrophysiological techniques
- Compile, interpret, and communicate data in real-time
- Complete post-operative reports and billing forms
- Reduce incidence of post-operative neurological deficits
Patient Consultation
- Explain test procedures to patients and family members
- Measure and accurately apply recording electrodes according to international 10-20 Electrode Placement System
Equipment Setup
- Calibrate, evaluate, and adjust equipment to acquire salient data
- Implement troubleshooting methods to assure accurate recording of information
- Keep equipment clean and in proper working order
Intraoperative Monitoring
- Interact with surgical team and surgeons to provide interpretive data
- Identify and eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifacts
- Recognize normal patterns, variants, and abnormalities; understand medical and pharmacological conditions influencing recordings
Documentation
- Display and label waveforms for interpretation and measurement
- Accurately document significant events and stages of surgery
Additional Duties
- Assist new IOM technologists following completion of training
- Attend scientific courses and seminars for continuing education if workload allows
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Hold CNIM certification or be eligible; this is not a training position
- Must hold valid driver's license
- Minimum Bachelor's degree or higher required
- Current AHA CPR certification necessary
