Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Perform preoperative assessments and conduct intraoperative sensory and motor tests using electrophysiological techniques
  • Compile, interpret, and communicate data in real-time
  • Complete post-operative reports and billing forms
  • Reduce incidence of post-operative neurological deficits

Patient Consultation

  • Explain test procedures to patients and family members
  • Measure and accurately apply recording electrodes according to international 10-20 Electrode Placement System

Equipment Setup

  • Calibrate, evaluate, and adjust equipment to acquire salient data
  • Implement troubleshooting methods to assure accurate recording of information
  • Keep equipment clean and in proper working order

Intraoperative Monitoring

  • Interact with surgical team and surgeons to provide interpretive data
  • Identify and eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifacts
  • Recognize normal patterns, variants, and abnormalities; understand medical and pharmacological conditions influencing recordings

Documentation

  • Display and label waveforms for interpretation and measurement
  • Accurately document significant events and stages of surgery

Additional Duties

  • Assist new IOM technologists following completion of training
  • Attend scientific courses and seminars for continuing education if workload allows

Required Skills and Qualifications

  1. Hold CNIM certification or be eligible; this is not a training position
  2. Must hold valid driver's license
  3. Minimum Bachelor's degree or higher required
  4. Current AHA CPR certification necessary

They must be detail-oriented and able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion. Physical demands include lifting and transporting monitoring equipment, standing, turning, and stooping among various types of equipment in an operating room suite.

Salary : $150 - $250
