Associate Materials Scientist
MRIGlobal is seeking a highly motivated person to join our Integrated Defense Solutions Business Unit as an Associate Materials Scientist in Charlottesville, VA. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists actively conducting chemical forensics and analysis. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced industrial knowledge of metallurgy, polymers, composites, and / or high-temperature ceramics.
Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors
Successful candidates will have a passion for applied research and developing technically sound solutions to real-world problems in a high tempo operational environment. This Associate position will be an integral part of our team supporting sample exploitation services on a federal program. Candidates should possess an understanding of the structure to property relationship of materials and be able to apply that understanding towards creative problem resolution to meet client expectations and deadlines. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.
Duties may include but are not limited to the following :
- Design and execute experiments independently or in collaboration with project teams, ensuring adherence to scientific protocols and methodologies.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical instruments
- Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of experimental results.
- Responsible for method development and method improvement, test plan development, and experimental design
- Ensuring laboratory areas meet all safety and security requirements
- Implement and monitor quality control processes to ensure analyses meet industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate other analytical techniques
- Perform technical reviews of analytical data
- Write / Review reports / presentations with clear results and concise, well-supported conclusions
- Managing multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
