Safety Director – Leadership Opportunity

Highland Consulting Group, a leading national executive recruiting firm specializing in the Commercial & Institutional construction sectors, is excited to announce a new opportunity for a talented Safety Director with a growing and reputable contractor in the Pittsburgh, PA area. This permanent, full-time position offers the chance to be part of a dynamic, expanding company with a strong commitment to safety and employee well-being.

As the Safety Director, you will play a critical role in managing the company’s safety initiatives across multiple projects, leading a team of Site Safety Managers, and ensuring the safety of all construction activities. We are looking for a leader with extensive experience in large-scale construction projects who can drive safety best practices while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Oversee and manage the company's overall safety program, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and modify project-specific safety plans based on the unique requirements of each project.
  • Be on-site regularly to execute and monitor the safety plan and provide leadership to the team.
  • Train and support on-site teams and subcontractors in maintaining safe construction practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, insurance providers, and contractors to ensure the safety program meets or exceeds expectations.
  • Review and summarize daily safety reports from Site Safety Managers for owners and clients.
  • Actively manage and address safety concerns across all ongoing construction projects.

Job Requirements :

  • Proven experience leading and managing safety programs in a construction environment.
  • Strong background in working directly with clients, insurance companies, and contractors.
  • CSP, ASP, or CHST certifications are a plus; OSHA 500 / 510 certification is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a Safety Management role, with at least 3 years on large-scale construction projects.
  • Experience with USACE EM385 is preferred.
  • A 4-year degree in Safety, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in creating and managing detailed safety tracking systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations and standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present and train effectively.
  • Solid track record of stability and success as a Safety Manager, with a passion for continuous improvement.
