Title : Safety Manager

Reports To : Director of Operations

Status : Exempt

Supervision : Directly manages Safety Coordinators

Wage Range : $80,000 - $115,000

Days : Monday – Friday

Travel : Locally for meetings and events. Occasional travel for conferences or business.

Hours : 6 : 30 AM – 3 : 30 PM

SUMMARY

The Safety Manager successfully directs and coordinates all aspects of safety for facilities and team members with direct reports during day and night shifts.The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all employees. They develop and execute health and safety plans, enforce policies, assess risks, to promote a culture of safety. This position reports to the Director of Operations and has strong peer relationships with HR, IT, Logistics, QA, R&D, Production, etc.

POSTION OVERVIEW

  • Follow OSHA programs and positively support our safety-first culture that directly impacts of incident rate improvements.
  • Adhere to compliance and communicate expectations of policies and procedures to managers, supervisors, team leaders, employees, and visitors, etc.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Daily plant presence – lead by example and conduct daily walk throughs.
  • Work with Directors of IT, HR, Operations and Facilities to develop desired improvements that contribute to capital projects, i.e., equipment, flooring, safeguards, etc.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • In depth knowledge of OSHA, 29 CFR, 1910 General Industry Standards
  • Awareness of EPA standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for communicating across departments, vendors, and within the community.
  • Ability to lead and teach skills necessary to perform safely while building rapport with employees and vendors.
  • Presentation skills and utilization of adult learning methodology.
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft products and willingness to learn software and technology as it applies to the position.
  • Demonstrate qualities of a Safety Manager; industry experience, analytical, ability to make quick decisions, integrity, problem solve, patience, good listener and empathetic, leadership, confidentiality, and good communication; verbal, written, and presentation. Should possess a safety mindset – all injuries are preventable.

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, safety management, or similar field, or the equivalent of three plus years on the job experience and / or combination of education and experience.
  • Education to include training in managing hazardous materials, one year plus leading a team.
  • In-depth knowledge of consumer product goods manufacturing is ideal.
  • 3-5 year’s experience in management / supervisor
  • CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES

  • OSHA 511 (can provide)
  • CSP preferred.
  • ASP preferred.
  • First Aid, AED, CPR (can provide)
  • Forklift, hand jack, sky jack, pallet jack (can provide)
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance (good standing)
  • TECHNOLOGY

    Intermediate skill level of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams. Skilled in typing 30 wpm. Willingness to learn new technology / software as it applies to the position.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Bilingual in English / Spanish is ideal but not required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business communications, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, and customers with effective communication skills.

The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee will have limited lifting, must be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds for transport of training materials and setting up learning events. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Required to wear PPE when in production areas to ensure safe food and adhering to safety practices.

    When providing learning or walking through the plant to perform the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts. The employee will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions when traveling between entrances; extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
