About the role
The primary purpose of the role is to price and underwrite a portfolio of treaty business in accordance with the business plan and the guidelines as determined by the MS Reinsurance’s Board of Directors. The portfolio will consist of Property, Casualty, Specialties, Life & Health Reinsurance business including both proportional and non-proportional.
Your responsibilities
- Quote, underwrite, service and process business as per the MS Reinsurance Underwriting policies and guidelines
- Pricing responsibility using internal Reinsurance pricing tools for all lines of business
- Responsible for the provision of real time aggregate accumulations
- Analyse the current market and target potential new clients, brokers and products, whilst maintaining and building relationships with existing clients and brokers
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all MS Reinsurance underwriting models and propose and agree improvements in collaboration with MS Reinsurance actuarial team
- Peer review a broad cross section of risks, quotes and endorsements within an assigned portfolio regionally and support other regions as assigned as needed
- Remain alert to developments affecting the business, potential profitability, and opportunities for the company, and to report on such matters, as appropriate
- Provide effective oversight and input into underwriting performance; ensure compliance with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements and group policies
- Assist with management, development and strengthening of all members of the Latin America & Caribbean Team in collaboration with the senior underwriting team.
Your profile
- University Degree in mathematics, actuarial science, insurance, business or related field preferred. Actuarial background ideal but not required
- Ideally 5 or more years of treaty underwriting experience. Will consider candidates with facultative underwriting experience.
- Possession of an industry related certification such CPCU, ARe or ACII preferred
- Experience as reinsurance underwriter in both proportional and non-proportional business
- Existing working relationships with both clients and brokers or the willingness to build such relationships
- Detailed and extensive working knowledge across Property, Casualty, Life & Health lines of business
- Excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with strong negotiation skills
- Full proficiency in English and Spanish required.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of applications with advanced skills in Excel
- Must be willing to travel and work extended hours where appropriate
