Overview: We are looking for a dedicated and knowledgeable Academic English Tutor to support high school students at our private learning academy. This role involves personalized instruction in English Language Arts through both individual and small group sessions. The ideal candidate will guide students in strengthening their skills in analytical writing, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, while also assisting with school coursework, AP English support, and college essay development.
Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted instruction in English Language Arts to high school students in one-on-one and small group settings
- Teach core writing components including structure, style, grammar, and revision strategies
- Enhance student vocabulary and critical reading abilities through guided practice and discussion
- Offer detailed feedback on literary analysis, academic essays, and creative writing
- Support students in AP English Language and AP English Literature with coursework and exam preparation
- Coach students through standardized writing test prep (SAT, ACT, etc.)
- Guide students through college application essays, from brainstorming to final drafts
- Personalize teaching approaches based on student strengths, challenges, and goals
- Monitor academic progress and provide updates to parents and administrative staff
- Foster a supportive, respectful, and motivating learning environment
Qualifications:
- Pursuing or holding a Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field
- Strong command of writing, grammar, and reading comprehension
- Experience teaching or tutoring high school students in English
- Familiarity with AP English curriculum and expectations for college-level writing
- Skilled in offering clear, constructive feedback that supports student growth
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SAT or ACT writing section preparation
- Background in coaching students through college admissions essays
- Ability to engage students with diverse learning needs, including English Language Learners
- Comfortable using online tools like Google Docs and educational platforms
- Knowledge of citation styles (MLA, APA, Chicago) is a plus
