Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled English Writing Teacher to join our high school faculty. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching composition, literature, and critical analysis across a range of writing genres. This position includes the opportunity to teach advanced coursework such as AP English Language and Composition and AP English Literature and Composition. Experience with standardized testing preparation is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement writing-focused lessons that support academic growth and creativity
- Teach various forms of writing including analytical, argumentative, narrative, and research-based essays
- Deliver AP English Language and/or AP English Literature instruction in alignment with College Board standards
- Guide students through the writing process with detailed feedback and opportunities for revision
- Incorporate grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension into writing instruction
- Engage students with diverse literary texts and facilitate meaningful discussions
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying skill levels
- Maintain a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and share best practices
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid teaching credential (or eligibility to obtain one) for secondary English Language Arts
- Experience teaching high school writing and literature
- Familiarity with AP English curriculum and College Board expectations
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
- Dedication to student development, writing confidence, and academic excellence
Preferred Skills:
- Experience teaching or preparing students for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, or state assessments)
- AP English certification or experience with AP test prep
- Comfort with digital tools such as Google Docs, Turnitin, or learning management systems
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including English Language Learners
- Passion for mentoring and helping students develop their unique writing voice
