Job Summary
This position is responsible for creating invoices for detention and demurrage charges and releasing cargo once payment is received.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generates and updates invoices for charges incurred by the customers for demurrage and detention (usage of port land / equipment, inside the port, after the expiration of the free days), using MSC proprietary systems and 3rd party invoice generators.
- Handles disputes, requests, refunds. Communicates with customers, replies to their questions, and generates potential solutions to customer issues pertaining to demurrage & detention invoices.
- Applies payments and posts releases at Terminal/Exam websites.
- Logs waivers, disputes and statements sent in waiver and collection logs. Processes data accurately and timely.
- Provides excellent customer service via phone, e-mail, etc., and maintains positive relationships with customers.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with internal teams. Collaborates with team members to achieve daily/weekly/monthly goals and deadlines.
- Communicates clearly with team members regarding workload, customer specifics, and issues. Escalates unique or complex issues pertaining to demurrage & detention invoices to the appropriate supervisor for resolution when necessary.
- Follows MSC procedures and established guidelines.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications & Key Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in a similar role (drayage, dispatch, pre-pull etc.)
- English: advanced
- Strong attention to details
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Organized, efficient, and able to manage time effectively
- Strong customer service mindset, focused, and responsive
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Great team player
- Knowledge of MS Excel with the ability to learn new software
