Nature of Work : The Internal Affairs Victim Advocate is a dual functional position providing administrative support and victim advocacy services for the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) for the MDTA Police Headquarters. This position will support the IAU staff by providing administrative functions to ensure the efficient operation of the office. As a Victim Advocate, the incumbent in this position will assist IAU investigators in investigating employee misconduct. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following : Provides direct administrative assistance to IAU staff while exercising judgment, independent initiative, and extensive knowledge of policies, rules, regulations, and workflow of the MDTA Police; Serves as an intermediary for the IAU Commander by providing direct information, assistance, and guidance to complainants as a Victim Advocate; Provides information and explanation to complainants regarding the administrative investigation process, charging committee, and trial board process; Uses knowledge of agency policy, rules, and regulations, as well as independent initiative and judgment to screen complaints against agency policy; Maintains constant contact with the internal affairs board members to ensure proper case flow and processing; Maintains IAU citizen-accessible database and independently assures sensitive information collected from the IAU is accurately compiled and maintained in the IAPro, Blue Team, and Public Portal computer database; Monitors telephone calls and other inquiries to the IAU; Determines reasons for inquiry, answers the inquiry independently, or make a referral to a proper IAU staff member; Processes all requests for IAU records and maintains disclosure log within IAPro to monitor each request; Assists with audits, annual and statistical reports based on analyzed data from IAPro database;and Reviews all disciplinary actions issues, reporting the findings directly to the IAU Commander or Assistant Commander in their absence. Employees in this position will report directly to theCommander of the Internal Affairs Unit. The current vacancy is located in Anne Arundel County, MD.
