RHS Job Title Support Cook- Kellogg Center Job Description
Starting pay $19.10/hr
Prepares and cooks food items such as assorted vegetables, rice potatoes, grains, and legumes for Kellogg Center banquet functions.
Plates assorted vegetables and starches on individual serving dishes for banquet functions.
Prepares daily food selections for the employee break room such as chili, casseroles, assorted vegetables, starches, and general entrees.
Obtains necessary ingredients for preparation of assigned food items and replenishes food supplies to meet requirements.
Oversees and assists in the maintenance of proper food handling techniques to ensure efficiency of operations and to eliminate waste and spoilage.
Taste tests food items.
Responsible for cleaning and routine maintenance of food preparation equipment such as counter surfaces, steamers, slicers, robot coupe, walk-in coolers, range tops, ovens, and general work area.
Assists production cooks with the preparation of various food items, as needed.
Assists in training and instructing support employees in food preparation and serving techniques.
Prepares basic food ingredients for cooking by performing such duties as chopping, cutting, slicing, grinding, and blending.
Assists cooks by combining food ingredients as directed.
Sets-up serving lines.
Finishes food items for serving by garnishing and transferring items to individual serving dishes.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, you will be expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If you have an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of your normally scheduled work hours remotely, you may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of quantity food preparation and serving techniques.
One year satisfactory cooking experience in a large volume food service operation or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
Willingness to work a flexible shift.
Standards of personal hygiene consistent with sanitation rules and regulations.
Occasional lifting of 26 to 75 pounds is required.
Preferred Qualifications
May require a valid operator, chauffeur, or commercial driver’s license(s) with applicable endorsements and medical certificate in order to comply with State of Michigan requirements.
This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
