Mt. Abraham Union Middle/High School is a 7-12 school with 625 students from five vibrant Addison County towns. We seek a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide healthcare services to students and staff. The LPN will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or School Nurse Leader and collaborate with school staff to promote a healthy environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Student Health Services:
• Provide direct nursing care to students, including administering medications, treatments, and first aid as needed.
• Contribute to the assessment and nursing care planning process and document findings.
• Monitor and manage chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) according to individualized health care plans.
• Participate in health promotion activities and school wellness programs.
3. Medical Records and Documentation:
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students, including immunization records and health histories.
• Document all health office visits, treatments, and communications with parents/guardians.
4. Emergency Response:
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate care until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive.
• Develop and implement emergency care plans for students with specific health needs.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and well-being.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns and care plans.
6. Compliance and Reporting:
• Ensure compliance with state and federal health regulations and school district policies.
• Report communicable diseases and other health issues to appropriate public health authorities as required.
7. Professional Development:
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices in school nursing and healthcare
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited LPN program.
Licensure: Valid LPN license in the State of Vermont.
Experience: Previous experience in a school or pediatric setting preferred.
Certification: CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
Skills: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and move students as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, and reach for extended periods.
Work Environment:
• School-based setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents.
• May be exposed to infectious diseases and other health risks.
Work Schedule:
Full-time school year position.
Salary Range: $28.00 -$30.00
