What are the responsibilities and job description for the Science Teacher- Middle School position at Mt. Ararat Middle School?
2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- General classroom responsibilities with major focus on teaching Science.
- Work in a team-oriented environment to design engaging student-centered lessons based on clear Learning Targets and Learning Goals.
- Build positive relationships with students.
- Support a growth mindset in the classroom including how to learn from mistakes, persevere, manage impulsivity and develop grit.
- Use assessment data to find a student’s readiness level so they can meet where they are and moved forward in their learning suing feedback effectively.
- Participate in professional development in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
- Support non-instructional duties.
- Other duties as per teacher contract.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Current State of Maine Science Teaching Certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience teaching Middle School science.
- Knowledge in the unique needs of the young adolescent and middle level philosophy.
- Experienced in a 1:1 computing environment including how to effectively use technology as an input source for knowledge.
- An understanding of a learner-centered proficiency-based education.
- An understanding of the Response to Intervention (RTI) model of student growth and support.
- Proven ability to function as a contributing member of a team.
