What are the responsibilities and job description for the Life Enrichment Assistant position at Mt Baker Care Center and Summit Place?
Mt. Baker Care Center is a locally owned skilled nursing facility connected to Summit Place Assisted Living. Our building is also shared with Generations Early Learning Center who we host intergenerational activities with often. We are working hard to uphold our reputation for treating our residents with compassion, kindness, and respect. Our department is continually working to keep our focus on maintaining a quality of life for our residents that holds an eminent sense of purpose. The Life Enrichment Department provides purposeful and community focused activities to its residents through cognitive, social, active, and sensory interventions.
This position will serve both Mt. Baker and Summit Place, working alongside a team of Life Enrichment staff. For someone who is the right fit, this position has the opportunity to get connected with the International Council on Active Aging and their Wellness Certification program, as well as the opportunity to grow and move up within your team and the facility.
We are looking for someone interested in consistent shifts, about 30-35 hours per week. Openness and availability for shift coverage, weekends, and holidays when needed is important. The starting wage will be from $21.00 - $24.00, depending on experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Passing out daily activity packets and residents personal mail every morning
- Recruiting residents to ~4 scheduled activities, beginning leading activities promptly, and maintaining engagement with all residents in attendance, including adapting activities as needed to accommodate resident’s individual needs and abilities
- Helping to decorate seasonally and for special events
- Watering outdoor and indoor garden with residents
- Setting up scheduled video calls with residents and families
- Serving food and drinks to residents during activities, and ensuring that the food being offered aligns with each resident’s diet and food consistency recommendations (MUST HAVE A VALID FOOD HANDLERS CARD OR WILLNGNESS TO OBTAIN)
- Connecting with volunteers and community outreach
- Effectively communicating with Life Enrichment team and facility staff
- Charting and documenting activity participation, indoor visits, taking profile photos for resident charts, completing initial and quarterly assessments upon request of Life Enrichment director, etc.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
- Relevant experience with leading social or recreational programs, caregiving background, experience working with this population
- Valid food handlers’ card
- Bachelor of Arts or Science in Recreational Therapy or related fields preferred
- Proficiency with Word and other computer programs
- Timelines, organization, self-initiating tasks, etc.
