Mt Baker Products, established in 1949, has a proud national reputation for custom quality decorative plywood. Our responsibly produced panels are used for architectural grade interior design and furniture in homes and commercial projects across the country.
We have an immediate entry-level opening for a Panel Grader on day shift (5:00 am to 1:30 pm; Mon-Fri). This position has potential for overtime, including on Saturdays. No experience is necessary; we will train.
Job Summary: Inspects and grades milled, rough sawed, or dimensional stock plywood and other related duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Panel Grader include those listed below. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Examines plywood on table, moving belt, chain conveyor, or in racks for defects such as knots, stains, decay, splits, faulty edges, pitch pockets, wormholes, and defective milling.
- Grades plywood to ensure proper specified dimensions and repair, if needed.
- Marks plywood to indicate grade and processing instructions.
- Tallies pieces of plywood according to grade and board footage.
- Determines cuts to be made to obtain highest marketable value from material.
- Removes unsatisfactory pieces from conveyor or table and places pieces on stacks, in bins or on carts.
- Scales board footage and records results.
- Other job duties, including cross training, as assigned.
Qualifications:

- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Entry level position: on the job training. Previous manufacturing (production, material handling, etc.) and/or experience working with wood are a plus. We will train on identification and grading of wood species.
- Ability to read and understand mill notes/orders/tickets written in English.
- Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide, common percentages and fractions)
- Able and willing to follow all standard work procedures in a safe and efficient manner.
- Be willing to cross-train and accept similar job duties to keep production moving.
- Be available to work overtime, including Saturdays.
- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with supervisor and coworkers.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The noise level is usually moderate to loud; PPE is required.
Physical Demands:
Will be required to constantly stand and walk, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear, grasp and feel with fingers, distinguish colors and defects.The employee must frequently lift/slide/move 50 to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to fine detail and color differentiation.
