What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plywood Press Trainee position at Mt. Baker Products, Inc.?
Mt Baker Products has been a premier manufacturer of Hardwood Plywood since the 1930's. To make our panels, layers of veneer need to be hand-loaded into a multi-opening press. While modern methods are certainly safer and more efficient, it's still the same basic process today. It takes skill and strength to do the job well, and we're willing to train you to do it right!
Overtime potential, including on Saturdays, may be expected.
Starting Pay: $23.00/hour
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Load press at a productive pace to ensure panels do not dry.
Blow off panels using pneumatic air tools in tandem with another press helper.
Clean press to ensure there is no build-up or residual debris.
Use conveyers to move plywood to pre-press and hot press.
Work closely with Quality Control (QC) team to ensure product meets established standards; report any quality or productivity concerns to QC department.
Work safely at all times, while meeting productivity requirements.
Wear assigned personal protection equipment (PPE).
Work cooperatively and productively in a team environment.
Accept other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age.
No experience is necessary; we will train. Previous experience in work requiring continuous movement/exertion is helpful, such as custodial, landscaping, construction or package delivery.
Ability to follow all work safety standards while meeting productivity requirements; ability to wear PPE, as assigned.
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Ability to take supervisory direction and accept new assignments.
Ability to maintain an organized and clean work area.
Ability to identify safety concerns on equipment and machinery and to appropriately escalate issues to management.
Ability to read and understand mill tickets and perform basic math operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Plywood Press Trainee is regularly exposed to loud machinery and equipment. The employee is required to work in cold to hot temperatures and can be dusty. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee will be walking, standing, and engaging in physical movement throughout the work shift, working on a raising/lowering platform. Occasionally-to-frequently required to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. Regular physical requirements include: bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, grasping, raising arms above shoulders and head, standing, working in enclosed areas, climbing stairs, and operating heavy machinery.
