Secondary Music Teachers are responsible to the District Program Administrator, Music Education in administrative and instructional matters falling within the Music Program. While in a school building, music teachers are responsible to the school principal for the care, control, and instruction of students in their charge. The duties and responsibilities of Secondary Music Teachers are as follows:
To act as an advocate, resource person, and facilitator of music activities in the school in the community.
To develop and direct an instrumental music program in the school served.
To work with students and parents in the selection of the proper instrument for study.
To organize intermediate or advanced classes of band and/or orchestra for the experienced students.
To prepare occasional instrumental programs for school or concerts.
To issue and supervise care of district-owned musical instruments.
To work with the District Program Administrator, Music Education in preparing students for District-wide honor groups and area festivals.
To act as a resource person to the classroom teacher with regard to the improvement of teaching of classroom music.
To provide opportunities for students to see and hear live performances by amateurs and professionals in school and in the community.
To work with principal of the school in developing an instructional schedule in harmony with the philosophy of the District Music Education Program and the policies of the school.
To cooperate with music teachers at high school levels in order to ensure efficient articulation
To attend job-related meetings and activities specified by the District Program Administrator, Music Education or Principals of the school served.
To perform those non-instructional duties and responsibilities, including supervisory and advisory duties, as may be prescribed by the Board of Education.
Salary : $65,422 - $120,624
