Head Start on-call Substitute (application pool)

Job Summary
On call substitute works substituting for a regular staff in the classroom, kitchen or on the bus.  Supervised by Teacher (or assigned Teacher) in the specific classroom assigned and by the Education Site Manager.

Position Specific Duties

1. Assists in carrying out classroom schedule and daily routines as established by the regular classroom staff.
2. Assists in implementing a planned classroom curriculum.
3. Takes direction from the assigned Teacher, Bus Driver or other classroom staff.
4. Assists in preparing activities, maintaining supplies and equipment.
5. Assists with cleaning and maintenance as required by the site.
6. Uses developmentally appropriate and positive guidance with children, and follows the program Child Guidance Policy.
7. Prepares food for meals in a safe and sanitary environment following local and CACFP regulations.
8. Helps with setting up the meals in the classroom and with meal clean up.
9. Assists the children getting on and off the bus, with their seat belts and taking them to and from their classrooms.
10. Helps the Bus Driver with their paperwork.

General Duties

1. Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures.
2. Directs and encourages classroom volunteers.
3. Maintains confidentiality in matters concerning Head Start families.
4. Interacts with children and families in a supportive and professional manner.
5. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to carry out oral and written directions, read, write and speak at a level sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed for the position described
• Ability to lift 50 pounds when working  
  
   

Additional Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment
• Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date:
  • TB screening
  • Health appraisal
• Food handler's card, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date.
• Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training must be completed within 60 days of hire date
• Introduction to Child Health and Safety training must be completed within 30 days of hire date

Working Conditions
Works assigned schedule, and exhibits regular and predictable attendance.  Work is sometimes performed in an emotional and stressful environment.
