The Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District (MMUUSD) is seeking an English Learner Teacher to support students district-wide. The EL Teacher provides service, support and/or monitoring to assigned EL students to help provide equitable access to educational opportunities and a successful educational experience. EL Teachers focus on meeting the needs of all students in the program in becoming proficient in the English language and adjusting to the school and community culture. This position requires traveling between various locations throughout the school district.
The EL Teacher creates, organizes and implements meaningful and engaging lessons/instructional programs to diverse groups of students in a school learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, as well as help them develop their character, personality and social and emotional skills.
The EL Teacher prepares course materials and design lessons that cover all aspects of the English language, whether written or verbal. They keep track of student progress and customize individualized plans for students with special requirements. They’re also responsible for creating a positive class environment.
The EL Teacher will work with teachers and students to facilitate access to course materials and lessons in a wide variety of formats. They will consult, collaborate and co-teach so that teachers will better understand how to acquire, evaluate and use information and technology needed to support EL students.
The EL Teacher will coordinate and implement regularly scheduled community-based screenings that will properly identify children who may need a more comprehensive assessment. They will administer ACCESS tests and screenres, and use ACCESS scores to determine when a student needs to receive services. The EL teacher will work to establish and maintain lines of communication with students, families and colleagues concerning both academic and behavioral progress for all students.
The EL Teacher:

- Collects and reports on correct and detailed records of student performance.
- Creates and maintains a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Creates a relationship of mutual trust and respect with students and families from all backgrounds and abilities.
- Organizes learning activities to make learning an easy and meaningful process for English Learners
- Cultivates the students’ interest in education and serves as their dedicated ally in the entire process of learning and development.
- Serves as a liaison between the school and the home.
Qualifications:
- Employees must hold a valid VT Professional Educator license with an EL endorsement at an instructional level that covers their assignment.
- Must hold a ESL or TESOL certification
- At the PreK level, must possess or be willing to obtain the necessary child development division certification requirements
- Valid Vermont Driver’s license and acceptable driving record needed to travel between school locations and to student homes as necessary
