Summary
Under direction of Sanitation Supervisor, oversees general operation of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift Sanitation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Oversees work performed by employees on first, second, or third shift Sanitation, including regular and seasonal associates; Assigns and checks performance of employees; Assures that work is being done in a safe manner; Also able to perform standard Sanitation labor practices. Follows established procedures for the cleaning, rinsing, foaming, steaming and sanitizing of equipment, containers and the facility. Established procedures are documented in the Sanitation Standards of Operations Procedure book and kept in the supervisor’s office.
Assigns work stations and recommends to the supervisor discipline as allowed in Policy Manual.
The Crew Chief will perform daily plant wide sanitation inspection which notes both additional cleaning needs apart from the Master Sanitation Schedule and various GMP issues that must be handled by the Maintenance Department. This inspection report is sent to the Sanitation Supervisor, Vice-President of Operations, the Plant Manager, and the Quality Control Manager for distribution/assignment.
Responds appropriately to sanitation issues needing immediate attention.
Keeps accurate sanitation records up-to-date, on a daily basis. Presents records to supervisor for approval and keeps records on file.
Assures all chemicals are properly labeled and stored.
Maintains inventory of all sanitation supplies and chemicals.
Accompanies regulatory inspectors (FDA, NCDA, SQF, etc.) and private auditing inspectors (Silliker, AIB, ASI, etc.) as they inspect facilities. Work with these inspectors to assure our company meets all requirements.
Performs duties of Sanitation Forklift Operator and Sanitation Laborer as needed.
Keeps own work area clean and neat.
Follows safety rules and company policies.
Other Duties
Drives own or company vehicle in performance of some job tasks.
Assists with disposal or storage or office and lab documents.
Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires high school education plus additional technical or specialized training. Must read, write and speak English, conversational Spanish a plus. Requires valid NC driver license to operate company vehicles. Must be properly trained to handle chemicals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Is not a supervisor, but has certain responsibilities in leading others in the department.

Bait boxes, Glue boards, Trap boxes, Rodent bait, Flashlight, Rodent urinal black light, Plastic liners, Fogging machine, Goggles, Gloves, Aprons, Boots, Fogging insect chemical, Shovel, Wagon, Hand pump sprayer, Measuring cup, Gas cans, Foaming Machine, Steam Engine, EPA Approved Cleaning Chemicals, Water Hose with Nozzle, Ladder, Bucket, Mop, Wheel Cart, Trash Boxes. Operates Forklift and occasionally drives Company Vehicles. Uses Telephone, Copier, Calculator, And Two-Way Radio as approved by Sanitation Supervisor.
Physical Demands
Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Work Environment
Works mostly indoors, in both plant and office surroundings. Head cover/ beard cover and hearing protection required when working in certain areas. Works outside approximately 10% of time, subject to wide seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetting from rain and some job tasks. Goggles and gloves required in some job tasks. Some contact with insect control chemicals and cleaning solutions. Gloves and goggles required in some job tasks.
