Description
Summary
The Occupational Health Nurse provides nursing services on-site. Services include vaccinations, health screenings, referrals to providers, and health and safety education. The Occupational Health Nurse also triages injuries and provides case management for workers’ compensation cases to assist with returning the employee back to work in a timely manner. Promotes a safe workplace environment with an overall goal of decreasing workplace illnesses and injuries.
Duties And Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Administers medical treatment and assistance within the RN scope of practice and per protocol to all employees for occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries in the area
Coordinates wellness events internally and with local health agencies and medical offices. Works closely with Goshen Medical.
Performs screenings for cholesterol, glucose, BMI, drugs, vision etc. Ensures testing equipment is operating properly. Makes appropriate referrals for those with abnormal results.
Coordinates and administers vaccines.
Triages injuries and connects employees with providers as needed.
Coordinates and communicates monthly wellness content for employees through announcements, bulletin boards, flyers and other resources.
Provides for and/or assists in such areas as: pre-employment screenings, insurance claims (worker's compensation), company benefits, hazard communication, weekly, monthly and yearly reports related to health matters, and maintains all necessary medical records
Maintains individual and daily logs of employee visits, including nature of injury or illness, department, treatment administered, and time
Maintains Hearing Conservation Program to meet OSHA standards, to include scheduling baseline and annual audiograms, recordkeeping, and explaining programs to employees
Orders medical supplies. Verifies receipt of items and invoice.
Works with Safety and Security Manager in gathering required details and paperwork on Worker's Compensation and OSHA recordable accidents.
Works with Creative Risks Solutions and the insurance company's adjuster to administrate employee worker's compensation claims
Serves on the Safety Committee and suggests topics for safety training, reporting any violation of safety rules and unsafe acts
Arranges and/or provides required trainings for First Responders, including but not limited to CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens, and First Aid
Performs monthly checks on all AED’s located on company property; ensure devices are properly maintained and stocked
Keeps current in trends and best practices in Occupational Health Nursing.
Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
Applies knowledge of principles of universal precautions. Routinely uses personal protective equipment and infection control barriers or devices to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.
Performs other work as directed by HR Director.
Requirements
Licensure by state as RN
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
Three (3) years nursing experience in hospital or industrial setting
Identifies with the values, philosophy, and mission of Mt Olive Pickle Company
Ability to evaluate and treat injuries and illnesses
Skill in observing people and their behavior, and able to work under stressful situations
Good knowledge and ability in occupational nursing
Good knowledge of insurance claims procedure
Must be willing to be flexible with hours.

Physical Demands
Medium Work - Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Majority of time is worked in office/clinic environment. Depending on task may also occasionally work in various temperatures including hot, cold, wet and humid environments.
Strength – Occasionally must be able to lift up to (40lbs);
Motion – Sitting and desk work will be required up to 60%. Ability to walk, stand and climb stairs. Some bending, crouching, stooping may be required. Ability to ride in/on a golf type cart; Ability to reach, grab, pull, push, manipulate equipment in office work including phone, fax, copier and computer, etc.
Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must have good vision and hearing;
Work Environment- Work environment will be mainly inside the facility. Office setting and climate-controlled facility. Possible hot or cold work outside and in plant location but very limited;
Emotional Demands – Employee expected to make quick decisions – Possible to be serious if health related. Must be able to communicate and speak in front of a group of people. Must be able to discuss sensitive or hard information with employees and be firm if necessary. Employee expected to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, etc.;
Safety – This is a safety sensitive position, and some PPE is required – safety glasses, boots, hearing protection in certain areas, and gloves.
Work Environment
Usual office working conditions. Access to CONFIDENTIAL DATA (ex. Medical records, WC files, etc.). Some exposure to plant conditions. Hairnet and earplugs required at times.
