Summary

Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Operates controls for machinery which cleans and cuts raw materials into strips and stuffers.
Operates controls for pumps which transfer raw materials from the wet hoppers to the processing line and for conveyors which move raw materials along the line to the cutting machinery. Operates controls for conveyors which move processed materials from the grading and inspection line to the packing dept.
Other Duties
Notes and records information on machinery down time and the reason for the down time.
Inspects and removes trash out of raw materials on processing line conveyor before it reaches the cutting machinery.
Responsible for regulating the flow of pickles from the hopper to the cutters to ensure a good cut product.
Must lock out and tag out and lock out equipment during breakdowns and jams.
Uses pusher to clear jams.
Wash machinery after all repairs and jams to ensure that no foreign objects gets into the product.
Measure temperature of product coming in from the wet hoppers.
Checks product after being cut by end cutters to verify the correct length of cut.
Notify O / M's of any cutting problems and assist O / M's when needed.
Lifts and moves 25 pounds of pickle approximately ten feet to relish tub.
Operate chip cutters, relish cutter, prickers, etc.
Grades and inspects product on any line.
Works on relish line.
Attends meetings and participates in projects as needed.
Receives written and verbal instructions from supervisor or crew chief and performs other work as directed by supervisor or crew chief

Requirements :
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of cutting department machinery.
Education and experience required : High school graduate or equivalent. 3-12 months experience needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Machines, Equipment, Tools Used
Cutting equipment for strips, stuffers, chips, salad cubes and relish, pricking machine, pumps, hoses, flumes, conveyors, knives, pushers, thermometers and cut resistant gloves.
Physical Demands
Standing : Particularly for sustained periods of time.
Pushing : Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
Lifting : Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.
Grasping : Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform and activity such as : operates machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performs mechanical or skilled trade tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
Work Environment
Works inside, subject to some seasonal temperature variations and frequent wetting of feet from job tasks. Fumes from pepper and chlorine. Head cover, gloves and cut resistant gloves are required. Some contact with brine, chlorine and oil.
