OBJECTIVE:
To provide visionary leadership and Christ-like oversight of the school’s athletic programs, including all curricular and extra-curricular sports and their respective teams, coaches, athletic facilities, and practice and game schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Director of Athletics should possess:
· A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
· An understanding of the Christ-focused approach to athletics and an ability to integrate that faith in all aspects of athletic programs
· A belief in and understanding of the greater mission and vision of MPCS
· Model Christian behavior in speech and actions
· A bachelor’s degree (required) and master’s degree (preferred) in education or a related field.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Impeccable organization and management abilities, including skills in conflict resolution, personnel supervision, and time management.
· A proven track record of developing and sustaining high-level, competitive athletic programs for students in lower, middle, and high school.
· Experience building relationships with donors and working with development staff to secure funding for athletic programs and facilities.
· The physical ability to lift and transport athletic equipment and boxes not exceeding 40 pounds. Reasonable modifications can be made for persons with disabilities.
Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES:The Director of Athletics at Mount Paran Christian School (MPCS) will:
Report to the Head of School.
Seek always to promote and protect the mission of MPCS.
Joyfully accept the work of MPCS as a personal calling and ministry, establishing and maintaining Christ-centered athletics program, ministering to students, staff, and parents, and integrating prayer into all athletic contests.
Provide visionary and strategic leadership of athletic programs that balance performance excellence with student growth and development.
Monitor all phases of the athletic program to guard the health and safety of athletes, providing oversight of physical examinations for student athletes, accident and injury insurance, claims paperwork, etc.
Ensure proper recognition of athletes and coaches including awards, banquets, press releases to both internal and external constituents.
Submit eligibility lists to administration for approval.
Maintain continuous communication with the administration and coaching staff regarding all aspects of the athletic program.
Recommend all coaching appointments to the Head of School, and assist head coaches in the selection of support staff
Supervise and mentor coaches, including pre-season meetings, mid-season assessment, post-season evaluation, and provision of appropriate continuing education for all athletic personnel.
Supervise and coordinate the Athletic Trainer Program.
Comply with the Georgia Athletic Association and all applicable rules and regulations, ensuring the certification and re-certification of coaching staff.
Attend professional meetings, remaining aware of current trends and changes
Oversee student eligibility requirements, including grade and attendance requirements for student athletes.
Coordinate practice and game schedules to ensure maximum effective use of the school’s athletic facilities, properly informing all relevant constituents accordingly.
Arrange for necessary purchase, care, and repair of athletic equipment and recommend needed improvements to athletic facilities and programs.
Provide an excellent home-game experience, ensuring the readiness of playing areas, and appropriate accommodations for visiting teams, coaches, scouts, officials, news media, and spectators, with appropriate crowd control.
Arrange for officials at all scheduled contests, preparing their contracts and arranging for payment.
Ensure care, maintenance, and readiness of the day-to-day operation of all athletic facilities in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
Prepare and manage annual budget, including budgets for each sport.
Participate in and provide leadership to Eagle Backers and other booster clubs, community organizations, association meetings, committees, and athletic leagues.
Review and revise as needed the Athletic Department Handbook and advise the Head of School and school leaders on policies in the MPCS Employee Handbook.
Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
