Position Title: Director

Reports to: CEO

Positions Reporting to This Position: Assistant Administrator, Teachers, Cook

FLSA Status: Hourly

Salary Range: $52,000 - $55,000

Job Summary:
The Daycare Director is responsible for overseeing MZLD daycare facility to ensure that children have a safe and fun environment to learn and socialize with others. Their duties include hiring qualified childcare staff, setting budgets for toys and supplies and proactively communicating with parents to accommodate their child’s needs.

Education:
Must have a degree in Early Childhood

  • 2 years of Early Childhood experience

Knowledge:

Record keeping practices and procedures, basic principles of accounting, financial record keeping and budget preparation, laws, regulations and practices relating to supervision and management of program personnel, basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and OutlookPhysical and Mental Requirements:

Essential Functions:

1. Maintain center program
a. Ensure compliance with all FSSA, CACFP, NAEYC, and MZLDC guidelines and policies

(Admin Assistant and Curriculum Specialist) b. Observe and monitor all classrooms to ensure quality care that is developmentally appropriate according to NAEYC guidelines c. Attend United Way and On My Way Pre-K meetings

d. Parent Engagement Tool Kit (complete kit & find avenues for more parent engagement) e. Resolve questions, issues, problems (staff and parents) as they arise f. Stay knowledgeable of individual children’s progress, specific incidents, child development issues, and program policy concerns g. Be available for parent guidance (Admin Assistant and Curriculum Specialist) h. Participant in employment interviews (Admin Assistant and Curriculum Specialist)

2. Staff Management - The Director is responsible to assist overseeing the performance of the teaching staff as well as providing support to the Admin Staff in hiring and management of staff. a. Develop a curriculum and program: Child Care Directors work closely with the center’s teachers and staff, creating learning plans or programs to meet state and federal requirements and parent’s expectations. b. Oversee staff: Staff management is probably the most important task of a Child Care

Director. They must interview, hire and train staff, making sure that all background and fingerprint checks have been conducted. c. Manage facilities: The Child Care Director must make sure that the facility is safe and well-stocked. That includes checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring the facility is always clean and orderly. d. Create a budget: The Child Care Director manages the facility’s finances, which includes creating and working within a budget. e. Market the facility: There is much competition between daycare facilities, so the Child

Care Director must have a marketing plan to promote awareness of the facility and its services. f. Meeting up with parents and teachers: A Child Care Director will meet with parents and teachers to keep parents up-to-date on their child’s development and progress, including discussing ways to address any learning or behavioral issues.

3. Professionalism

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position employees are subject to constant interruptions, are often under severe time constraints and are in direct contact with the public, students, and employees.
Negative interactions resulting from these contacts can result in stressful situations. Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity with children and adults.

The child care environment is often loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in several indoor environments including the classroom, kitchen, and office. Additionally, employees will work in outdoor environments including on or near student playground equipment.

Emergency Response/Recovery
In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to “report to duty” in accordance with MZLDC’s Emergency Operations Plan and/or the employee’s department’s emergency response and recovery plans. During or immediately following an emergency, the employee will be notified to assist in the emergency response effort, and to mobilize other staff members if needed.
